Sept. 13, 1921 – Nov. 22, 2007 Ralph W. Nelson Ralph W. Nelson, 86, of Huntsville died Thursday. Mr. Nelson graduated from Auburn University in 949 with a degree in electrical engineering. He was retired from the U.S. Army Missile command. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific theater, and was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Lawson Nelson; children, Janice Owen and husband Wayne, Roger Nelson and wife Donna, Melanie Battles and husband John, and Tammy Carlisle and husband Tony; grandchildren, Amelia Estes and husband Shawn, Laura Thornton and husband Steven, Brent Owen and wife Valerie, Katelyn Owen, Elizabeth Nelson, Timothy Nelson, Jessica Battles, and Rebecca League and husband Ryan; great-grandchildren, Silas Estes, Isabelle Estes, Adeline Thompson, and Taylor Owen; and sisters Lola Callahan, and Lela Reeves and husband Leon. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Hillwood Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Marty Jordan officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Morningside Baptist Church. Valhalla Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
